This year, for the first time, the FoHCT Open Day was held jointly with the Hornsey Community Picnic on Sunday June 16th. The Community Picnic commenced at 12:30pm and the FoHCT Open Day started at 2pm with both events finishing at 5pm.
There were some challenges managing the two different start times, but overall this was a very successful event blessed with fine weather although a little too windy for the gazebos at times! Activities organised by the Friends during the open day included the very popular tower tours which were ‘sold out’ and ran at 15 minute intervals instead of every half hour as previously, the teddy bear zip wire experience, Rebecca’s ‘pin to the Tower’ game, a modified tomb and tree trail and the tea and cake stall. In addition, there were stalls manned by the Friends, Hornsey Historical Society and the Church for their book stall.
The Community Picnic event included a great selection of musical and dance performances including ‘Justin’ the steel drummer, Liz Simcock (a Crouch End folk singer) and special guest Natasha Hardy amongst others. There was also a display of classic Lotus sports cars (marking the origins of Lotus cars in Hornsey) and lots of family fun activities with face painting and a bouncy castle. The day’s events raised over £800 towards the upkeep of the Tower and Churchyard which is double the previous total in 2018, so great success! Thanks to everyone who helped to organise, set up and run the events.
