Churchyard Lighting Problems!

The four lamp standards on the south side of the churchyard that are not working were reported to Haringey Council in November 2018 and logged on to the system as needing repair on the 3rd December. Haringey’s team checked the lighting but found that the problem was due to the supply infrastructure which is owned by UK Power Networks.

UK Power Networks attended in December but could not access a suspect control box due to vandalism to the box cover but later made a second visit together with Haringey engineers in January 2019 and were able to establish that the power supply problem was probably in the cables below ground.

Discussions have commenced between the Church and UK Power Networks regarding excavating to repair the damaged cables but this will hopefully not present significant delay as the investigation will only involve exposing the previously installed cabling i.e. will not disturb new ground. In the meantime we can only urge the responsible parties to expedite the repairs as the south side of the churchyard is very dark during the long winter nights and is intimidating to potential users of the paths (particularly single women) – see the picture below:
